Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Announces Nationwide Grants Supporting Law Enforcement Mentoring Initiative

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), the nation’s oldest one-to-one youth mentoring organization, will award 13 grants worth $560,000 to affiliates in support of its “Bigs in Blue” program. The program will recruit police officers to become mentors to the youth they serve. Through this initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters is striving to have a positive impact on the strained police-community relations. The Dallas community has been extraordinarily supportive of Bigs in Blue, contributing more than $650,000 to the program at Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star.

On Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., Assistant Chief Paul Stokes and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America CEO Pam Iorio will announce the cities that will be starting or expanding their Bigs in Blue programs with national grants. The affiliate serving the Dallas area, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, is receiving a sizeable grant and other large donations from the local community, which will also be highlighted. Immediately following the press conference, Iorio, Stokes, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star CEO Pierce Bush, and Bigs in Blue mentors and mentees will be onsite for interviews and photo opportunities with an oversized check presentation.

The media is invited to attend the event which will be held at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters at 1400 S. Lamar Street Dallas, TX in the second floor media conference room.
