District 5 Deputies and Community Work Together to Identify and Arrest Burglar

On Monday, April 17, 2017, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office District 5 Patrol Division were dispatched to several reports of burglary of motor vehicle and a theft from a motor vehicle in the area inside Walden on Lake Conroe, in Montgomery, Texas. During the investigation, Deputies learned that all of the burglaries involved unlocked vehicles and one of the vehicles contained a firearm. Video surveillance was available at one of the crime scenes and a still photo of a suspect from the video surveillance was put on the NextDoor social media network/app for the Walden area. A Walden resident recognized the suspect from the photo and contacted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office with the suspect’s name.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives investigated the case further and, as a result of the investigation, Matthew S. Durrette (date of birth 08/23/1977) has been charged with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm (felony), and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Matthew Durrette has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail on those charges, as well as two local warrants he had for his arrest. The investigation is continuing at this time.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson would like to thank the community and his Sheriff Deputies who worked together to bring Matthew Durrette into custody quickly.

Sheriff Henderson, “This is another example of the community and law enforcement working together to solve a problem. This is what community-policing is all about.”

Arrested: Matthew Durrette DOB 8-23-77

Charges:
Burglary of a motor vehicle two counts
Theft of a motor vehicle
