FORT WORTH, TX - A 2nd alarm
apartment fire at the Brazos Apartments in the 6600 block of S. Hulen St. in
Fort Worth, has injured two persons, requiring their transport to Parkland
Hospital in Dallas, TX. Fort Worth Firefighters received the call
reporting the fire around 8:50 this evening. Fire personnel arrived to
find heavy fire showing from the apartments. While performing a search
of one of the units involved, firefighters discovered an elderly male patient
with severe burns. A second patient, an elderly female, had
successfully escaped the fire but had sustained potentially serious burns as
well. Both patients were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in
Dallas, one via Medstar Ambulance and the other via CareFlite Air Ambulance.
The fire was declared under control at 9:08.
A total of 12 fire suppression units responded to the 2nd
alarm fire, as well as fire support teams and FWFD Arson & Bomb
Investigators. Two units were heavily damaged by fire, two units
received extensive smoke damage. Approximately 32 units are currently
without power. Approximately 10 residents of the Brazos apartments have
been displaced by this fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross
with temporary shelter and other services.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by
Fort Worth Fire Department Arson Investigators.
