FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RE: Juvenile Arrest for Unlawful Carry of a Weapon

On 10-10-17 at 3:30 pm, officers with the Santa Fe Police Department were dispatched to 4206 Warpath Ave.  (HEB Pantry) in reference to a person with a gun. While en route, officers learned that the subject was observed placing the handgun into a backpack and then walking away from HEB towards Warpath Ave. Responding officers were given a description of the subject and arrived in the area a short time later and began searching for the subject.

The responding officers located two subjects at the Fritz Barnett Intermediate School walking together and both of the subjects’ clothing matched the description provided by the caller. Both subjects were then detained for investigative purposes. During the course of the investigation, one of the subjects was found to be in possession of a handgun. The subject with the handgun was found to be 15 years of age and was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon in a Weapon Free Zone. The subject was transported to the Santa Fe Police Department for processing. After processing, the subject was then transported to the Juvenile Justice Center in Texas City. It is not known at this time how the subject came into possession of the handgun.

This incident remains under investigation and possible additional charges are pending. If additional charges are filed and/or if other suspects are uncovered, that information will be released at that time.
