Judge Jim Schweitzer

Justice of the Peace Jim Schweitzer formally announced his candidacy for re-election in the upcoming March Republican Primary.  Portions of Galveston Island, Santa Fe, Tiki Island, Bayou Vista, Omega Bay, Hitchcock, Texas City, La Marque, Dickinson, and League City comprise Precinct 2.

According to Judge Schweitzer, “the reduction of JP precincts from eight to four continues to bring new opportunities and challenges to the growing and diverse population in Galveston County. The communities in Precinct 2 are unique with their own identities and problems yet share the same values of working to make life better for the citizens of Galveston.”

Serving fifteen years as Justice of the Peace and nine years as the Judge of the Galveston Municipal Court provide Judge Schweitzer with a unique experience and perspective for transitioning the citizens and police departments within the expanded Precinct.

Judge Schweitzer graduated from the University of Houston Law School and has continuously practiced law in Galveston County. He is Board Certified in Residential Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. He is a former President of the Galveston County Justices of the Peace and Constables Association as well as a former statewide instructor for the Texas Justice Court Training Center.

Times change but values remain constant.  Judge Schweitzer believes that “the most effective government is government closest to the people. The Justice of the Peace has consistently remained one of the closest elected officials to Texans.” Judge Schweitzer intends to continue working hard not only for Precinct 2 but for all Galveston County residents.
