A New York City college is urging NYPD officers to start using restrooms away from the main part of campus "rather than walking across either quad," the New York Post reported.

Students at Brooklyn College are also reportedly circulating a petition to keep cops "out of sight" of students when they customarily need to utilize the campus facilities.

According to the Post, the school's director of public safety Donald Wenz said cops are still allowed to be anywhere they desire, but that Brooklyn College would "prefer" that they use the reportedly decrepit bathrooms at the "West End Building."

He stressed that the school is not formally banishing law enforcement in any way, stressing the term "we prefer."

But, one student is circulating a petition to change that custom and keep police from patrolling the campus, according to the school newspaper.

"We do not want the NYPD on campus in any respect even if it's just to... use the bathroom," the student said.

One student told the Post that some students "don't feel comfortable around cops."

Sergeants Benevolent Association chief Ed Mullins reacted to the controversy, saying that students who don't understand the reason police patrol the campus should "take classes abroad where they can have their bathrooms to themselves."
