GALVESTON – Wednesday, December 13, 2017, a Galveston County jury found Sidney Joseph Martin, 23, guilty of Possession of Child Pornography.

Martin’s jury trial began Monday, December 11th, in the 122nd District Court. During the trial, Special Victim Unit Prosecutors Beverly Armstrong and Kacey Launius presented witnesses and evidence detailing the crime. The evidence showed a Detective with the Houston Metro Internet Crimes against Children (HMICAC) task force received over a dozen “cybertips” from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A cybertip reports the online sexual exploitation of children.

On April 8, 2015, a detective with HMICAC received the cybertip explaining the possible possession of child pornography. The tips included multiple dates and were all eventually linked to Sidney Martin. Detectives testified that Martin created multiple email accounts and used these profiles to upload images of children nude or performing sexual acts.

A search warrant was drafted and executed for Martin's email accounts further linking him to possession of child pornography. A search warrant was later drafted and executed on Martin's home where law enforcement seized several items, including Martin's cellphone, laptop, and a flash drive. Detectives completed a forensic download of Martin's devices and revealed over a thousand images of child porn. Additionally, Detectives located one of Martin's emails which stated "I like to trade" with images depicting child pornography attached in the message. Martin was charged with two cases of Possession of Child Pornography.

After two days of testimony and arguments, the jury retired to deliberate and returned approximately thirty minutes later with a guilty verdict. Martin faces anywhere from two to ten years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on each case. He is also eligible for probation. Martin has elected to receive his sentencing from the judge rather than a jury. Sentencing will take place January 19, 2018.

Martin was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Beverly Armstrong and Kacey Launius in the 122nd District Court, with Judge John Ellisor presiding. The investigation was conducted by the Houston Metro Internet Crimes against Children Taskforce with the assistance of local agencies, including Homeland Security Galveston Division, Galveston Police Department and Webster Police Department.
