An hours-long gun battle between a suspected murderer and law enforcement is over.

Panama City, FL – A man suspected of killing his ex-wife’s fiancé was confirmed dead late Tuesday afternoon after an extended gun battle with multiple law enforcement agencies, according to WKRG.

Authorities said that Kevin Robert Holroyd, 49, was the gunman who exchanged fire with officers for several hours on Tuesday afternoon in a residential neighborhood in Panama City, WMBB reported.

Holroyd’s rampage began earlier in the day in nearby Walton County, where the body of his ex-wife’s fiancé, 30-year-old Clinton Street, was found at about 10 a.m., WKRG reported.

Police said Street had been shot multiple times. He was from Alabama and had been living in Walton County.

WKRN reported that there was “nothing remarkable” about Street’s record and said it looked like he lived a “normal life” and was engaged to be married to Holroyd’s ex-wife.

After Walton County sheriff’s deputies found Street’s body, law enforcement followed the suspect to Bay County.

When they located Holroyd at his apartment complex, a gunfight broke out, WKRN reported.

It was not known whether Holroyd was shot by police or died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Bay County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Ruth Corley said Holroyd had doused the apartment where he was barricaded in gasoline, so authorities were having to proceed slowly because the scene was extremely dangerous.

Corley said police probably weren’t going to be going in there “anytime soon,” but said officials are certain the suspect is down.

Holroyd has a criminal record that included disorderly conduct, and a felony record with the department of corrections, WKRG reported.

An unknown number of gunshots were exchanged between police and Holroyd.

Witnesses reported hearing more than 50 shots, and more gunfire could be heard in the background as the reporter conducted a live interview on WMBB shortly before 4 p.m. Central time.

Panama City Spokeswoman Caitlin Lawrence told WJTV that so far, other than Holroyd, only one person had been identified with a minor injury and transported to the hospital.

However, WKRG reported that an EMS worker was grazed by a bullet and had a non-life threatening injury. It is not known whether both were referring to the same victim.

Panama City PD, Panama City Beach PD, the Bay County Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish and Wildlife, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and worked together to bring the situation to a resolution, authorities said.

Authorities have not yet said what kind of weapons Holroyd was using to fire at officers.
