A San Antonio police officer is under investigation for allegedly striking his fiancée in the face with a rock.

Krista Cooper-Nurse said three weeks ago her fiance, Justin Ayars, fractured her face in three places, medical records show.

She said after they fought, Ayars, climbed into the vehicle of a fellow off-duty officer and left the North Side apartment complex, leaving her to crawl to a neighbor’s door for help. Rushed to a hospital, the 24-year-old nursing student was transferred to a trauma center; her injuries to the face would require surgery.

Nearly three weeks later, Ayars, 28, has not been arrested or charged in connection with the May 26 incident. Cooper-Nurse said the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office has blocked her attempts to obtain a protective order against him.
