A La Marque police officer will not face charges in the fatal 2017 shooting of a man who authorities say attacked him with a sword during a home invasion.

The Galveston County District Attorney's Office released a statement on Monday stating it would decline to take action against Officer Jose Santos of the La Marque Police Department, and concluded its investigation without recommending charges against him.

Santos responded to a home invasion call on Dec. 3, 2017, after a woman reported a man had broken into her home wielding a sword. When Santos arrived, he was told that the man, Gregory Ham, had fled to a nearby property.

Santos and his police canine, Rocky, pursued Ham, still armed with a sword, to a shed behind a nearby home. Authorities said Ham struck Santos in the head with a sword, and that Santos then filed a single shot, striking Ham in the head.

Why did this even go to a grand jury if two investigations were done why where two investigations done if the sheriff's office did one it seems that the cop does his job then is put through years of stress and worry on his family for doing his job and protecting his life
