Galveston Police Press Release 

On the morning of June 25th, 2018, a Galveston Police Officer was involved in a shooting while conducting a traffic stop in the 5300 block of Ave L.  The case is still being investigated by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office and the officer still remains on administrative leave as of this time. 

The Galveston Police Department has identified the involved officer as Officer Derrick Jaradi.  Officer Jaradi has been with the Galveston Police Department since June of 2016, has a total of eight years of law enforcement experience and is 30-years-old.  Officer Jaradi has not been involved in a police shooting before this incident nor has he received any discipline since working for the Galveston Police Department.

Thank you for NOT posting a photo. I don't know when 'innocent until proven guilty' stopped being the rule of law nor when people became so ridiculously hateful but there is no reason to post a picture and cause the officer more stress and possibly harm to him and his family.

Not knowing the circumstances surrounding the incident one can only hope that the officer will be no billed and put back to full duty.

Thank you for not publishing this officers photo!
I too feel that this officer and his family, have been placed in danger from a public often all too willing and ready to extract vigilante vengeance before knowing the facts of an ongoing investigation.
I would hope that our community would show more restraint and civility than others around our country, but one never knows the minds and hearts of others.

I wish articles with this subject would read "One of our Officers were once again forced to use his side arm to protect himself from criminals on our streets due to the rallying against our men in blue and emboldening criminals to retaliate against them from our past administration".
