Williamson County Sheriff’s detectives seized $95,930 believed to be connected to drug trafficking during a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 35 in Georgetown, a notice of seizure said.

Lilliana Edith Gomez, 24, of Mission, was charged with money laundering, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

A detective stopped Gomez, who was driving a Chevrolet Impala, at 11:39 a.m. Monday because she was driving in the left lane and not passing other vehicles, the affidavit said.

Gomez told the detective she had left Mission on Friday and gone to Fort Worth to visit her uncle who has leukemia, according to the document. She also told the detective she was driving back to Mission. The detective checked records and found that Gomez had driven through a checkpoint in Falfurrias in South Texas on Sunday, contradicting her story.

After the detective received Gomez’s permission to search her vehicle, the affidavit stated, he found five packages of cash underneath the carpet and insulation of the floorboard under the dash.

The packages were wrapped in heat sealed packaging and camouflaged with duct tape, according to the affidavit.

Gomez said she didn’t know anything about the cash found in her car, according to the affidavit. She was being held in the Williamson County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $200,000.
