LA MARQUE – A body found in a burned car last month by La Marque police has been identified as a U.S. Army veteran from Houston who was killed before the car was set alight, police said Thursday.

Dental records were used to identify the remains discovered Feb. 17 near the Gulf Greyhound Park as Brandon Lancelin, 31, according to Detective Sgt. Shawn Spruill.

Spruill said preliminary autopsy results indicated that Lancelin was killed before his body was  burned inside a Ford Expedition from which the vehicle identification numbers had been removed.

Police are treating the death as a homicide based on the preliminary autopsy results, but are awaiting the full autopsy report to learn how Lancelin died, Spruill said.

Anyone with information about the vehicle, license plate 45K-CF9, or Lancelin is asked to contact police at 409-938-9234 or La Marque Crime Stoppers at 409-938-8477.
