A Houston couple remains in custody for allegedly hiring an undercover Houston Police officer posing as a hitman to target their former partners.

Valerie McDaniel and Leon Philip Jacob are to appear Monday in the 263rd District Court.

They are charged with solicitation of capital murder for their alleged roles in the case, according to documents filed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

McDaniel, 48, a Houston veterinarian, sought to have her ex-husband killed.

Jacob, 39, is accused of seeking to have his ex-girlfriend kidnapped and later killed to prevent her from testifying against him.

Jacob was previously charged with stalking and assault against the woman in cases still pending.

Investigators with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Special Crimes Bureau first learned that Jacob was seeking to have his ex-girlfriend killed.

Investigators determined Jacob had agreed to pay $10,000 to a man to orchestrate the attack.

The man later agreed to cooperate with authorities. He and an undercover officer posing as a hitman met with Jacob to discuss details of the plot.

During that meeting, McDaniel arrived. She asked the undercover officer to kill her husband, and agreed to pay him $10,000 as part of an installment payment toward that hit.

The plan was to shoot him in what would look like a carjacking gone bad.

Following the meeting, both would-be victims were notified of the plots against them. They agreed to cooperate with authorities and helped them stage murder and kidnap scenes that were photographed as proof the attacks had been carried out.

Jacob and McDaniel were arrested March 10.  They face five years to life if convicted.
