Authorities say the injured deputy, who hasn't been identified, responded around 11:45 p.m. to a home in the 21000 block of Pearl Harvest to break up a fight between a father and son.

When the deputy arrived to the scene, he broke up the fight and tried speaking with the suspect, but the suspect pushed the deputy and a struggle ensued, according to a preliminary report from the sheriff's office.


During the struggle, the deputy was stabbed several times in the neck and head. The suspect was later arrested. During the struggle to arrest the suspect, he too was injured.

Paramedics took both men to University Hospital. The deputy was in serious condition but alert, according to the sheriff's office. He's now being treated and evaluated for his injuries.
