Man accused of killing estranged wife found alive with gunshot wound to head after Katy standoff

KATY, Texas - A man shot and killed his estranged wife Monday in west Harris County during a domestic dispute, investigators said.

A family member called deputies around 4:30 a.m. to the Sync at Kingsland Ranch Apartments in the 21100 block of Kingsland Boulevard and said that her brother had killed his wife and was going to take his own life, deputies said.

Investigators found the woman in her 30s dead inside the home with a gunshot wound to her head, deputies said.

According to investigators, the family told deputies the couple had been separated, but had been fighting for almost two weeks. Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls, both had filed domestic complaints against each other last week.

SWAT was later called to the  Willow Lake Apartments around 7 a.m. after it was reported that the woman's husband would not come out of a home.

SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the man alive, but with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Nehls said. The man was flown to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known. 

According to investigators, the woman was moving on with her life and had a new boyfriend. It is unclear what led to the fight.

The shooting is under investigation.
