The Fort Worth officer shot seven times in a shootout in March will be discharged Tuesday morning, police said.

Officer Matt Pearce will be escorted home from the Texas Rehabilitation Hospital in Fort Worth by his colleagues where he will rest before beginning the next phase of his recovery in Houston, police said.

Pearce has had setbacks and triumphs as he fought to recover from his injuries. He was critically wounded while chasing a fugitive on March 15 and has been hospitalized since.
