Williams Syndrome Month – in memory of our friend “Dougy”
Douglas “Dougy” Swetman, born 9/16/1998 lived a great life, though cut short on 4/20/2020. “Dougy”, as we called him at the office, is son of Cassandra Rorai, one of the exceptional women in our administration. We always enjoyed visiting with Dougy, listening to his stories of how he excelled in the Special Olympics during his favorite sporting events; basketball, bowling and track. We also enjoyed working on new handshakes every time we saw him. He was always telling us a new joke and laughing hysterically at ours. He was friends with everyone here. Since May is Williams Syndrome Month, we wanted to pay respects to Dougy’s passing with a decal that will be placed on each patrol vehicle with the hashtag: #MissyaDougy, because we sure do.
Williams’s syndrome (WS) is a genetic condition that is present at birth and can affect anyone. It is characterized by medical problems, including cardiovascular disease, developmental delays, and learning challenges. These often occur side by side with striking verbal abilities, highly social personalities, and an affinity for music. WS occurs equally in males and females and in all cultures worldwide.
