Media Advisory
For Immediate Release

May 20, 2022

Today (May 20, 2022) at approximately 10:56 am, a Deputy with the
Precinct 1 Constable Office conducted a traffic stop on IH 45 just north of
FM 830.

Upon approaching the vehicle and making verbal contact with the driver;
the deputy, immediately developed probable cause and asked the driver to
step out of the vehicle. The deputy further learned that the driver was an
illegal who had been deported as an aggravated felon. At this time, a peace
officer from the Panorama Village stopped to assist our deputy with this
road side investigation.

Officers then advised the driver/suspect that he was being detained. The
driver then started actively resisting both officers and violent struggle
ensued. The driver continued fighting with the officers into the median onto
the feeder road; in an attempt to flee. During this struggle, several citizens
stopped to help the officers gain control of the driver/suspect.

The driver/suspect was detained and then started having a medical
episode. Montgomery County Hospital District arrived on location to check
the driver/suspect, who was then transported for medical evaluation.

Both deputies were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The
driver/suspect was later released from the hospital and taken to the
Montgomery County Jail without incident. The driver/suspect was charged
with two (2) counts of Assault on a Public Servant, third degree felony.

Constable Cash wishes to thanks the citizens who stopped to help deputies
gain control of this suspect. “We are fortunate to work in a community

where the public respects, supports and helps the police”. “Since January 1
of this year, 107 police officers have lost their lives providing law enforce
services throughout the nation”.

Constable Cash further thanks our area partners (Panorama Police
Department, Conroe Fire and Montgomery County Hospital District and
Precinct 2 Constable’s Office) for their assistance in getting a violent felon
off our streets.

Arrested: Jose Leonardo Cruz-Lanza, dob. 10/28/1990; Hispanic Male
from Honduras.
