A Texas City man is charged with four felonies and held on $825,000 in bonds after being accused of assaulting police officers and attempting to steal a marked patrol car Wednesday morning, police said.

Michael Keithley, 45, is charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, felony escape and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, Lt. Forest Gandy, of the La Marque Police Department Investigative Services Division, said.

La Marque police searching for a suspicious person and a possible burglar encountered Keithley in the 1400 block of Westward Avenue, Gandy said.

Police allege Keithley attacked responding officers when they approached him and attempted to steal a marked police vehicle, Gandy said.

The officers took Keithley into custody with the help of a bystander, Gandy said.

Officers sustained injuries to their faces, heads and hands and received medical treatment, Gandy said.
