FORT WORTH, Texas- On Saturday March 4, 2023, FWPD officers were involved in a critical police incident. In order to be transparent, the following details are being released to the public;

On Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 07:17 am, the Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) received multiple 911 calls from citizens that an unknown male was yelling in a field, walking in the street, stopping traffic, and was possibly in need of emergency assistance. Call details advised that the unknown male was stating “You’re under arrest” and that he was “going to pull the trigger”.

North Division Patrol Officers arrived on scene at the intersection of Park Vista Blvd at Keller Haslet Road.

Officers located the suspect and began talking with him about his current situation to see how they could provide him assistance. The suspect remained unresponsive to officers’ attempts to help him and kept walking away from them. During this encounter, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun in the suspect’s front waistband area.

As officers continued to walk with the suspect in the 13000 block of Park Vista Blvd, an officer approached the suspect and deployed their taser attempting to subdue the suspect and take him into custody; however, the taser was ineffective. The suspect then grabbed the weapon from his waist band. Fearing the suspect was about to shoot, an officer fired their weapon in response, striking the suspect.

Officers provided medical aid to the suspect, and he was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. The suspect is currently listed in stable condition.

A weapon was located in the immediate area where the suspect was taken into custody.

This information is preliminary as the investigation is ongoing.

The Major Case Unit and the Internal Affairs Unit responded to the scene and are conducting investigations. The Tarrant County District Attorney’s office also responded to the scene.
