Friendswood Police Activity Report

March 6-12, 2023

Burglary

Mar. 7 (10:00 a.m.) A burglary was reported at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Drive.  A safe containing cash was stolen. The suspect entered through an unlocked doorway to get to the chapel area. After reviewing video surveillance, it was determined that the suspect entered the church at 8:42 p.m.

Mar. 8 (6:48 a.m.) Officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Oak Park Lane where a man and woman were attempting to break into a home. Donovan Brisby, 35, of Houston, was charged with Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespass. When police arrived, Brisby and a female were taken into custody.  Both were under the influence of some type of narcotic. A window on the back of the house was broken out, a screen was damaged, and removed.

Mar. 10 (8:39 p.m.) A 16-year-old Friendswood teen was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention.   The teen was observed breaking into a vehicle on Stoneledge Drive. When an officer arrived in the area, he observed the teen in the area.  The teen ran, jumped a fence, and was caught by the police.  The victim of the vehicle burglary positively identified the teen as the suspect who broke into his vehicle, but he refused to file charges due to the offender’s age.  However, the teen was charged with Evading Arrest and faces those charges in a juvenile court.  The teen was released to the custody of his father.

Theft

Mar. 6 (7:41 a.m.) A catalytic converter theft was reported at the For Children Only Day Care Center located at 1415 S. Friendswood Drive. The theft occurred sometime between March 3rd and March 6th. While taking the report from the day care center, other catalytic converters were reported stolen vehicles parked at Christian Brothers Automotive located at 1553 S. Friendswood Drive. Catalytic converters were removed from two vehicles in the parking lot.

Mar. 12 (1:22 a.m.) Marcus Demond Beard, 22, of Ridgeland, MS, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Beard was stopped in the 300 block of W. Edgewood Drive for speeding and failing to signal a lane change. During the contact, the officer detected the smell of marijuana.  A search of the vehicle yielded marijuana, methamphetamine, and hydrocodone. The officer also noted that the vehicle did not have a registration sticker or front license plate.  A check of the VIN showed that the vehicle was reported stolen on February 28th in Houston.

Fraud

Mar. 6 (11:50 a.m.) A Friendswood woman was scammed out of $42.18 after ordering from a fraudulent apparel company.  She believed she had ordered from the same company before, but later realized that the company she just ordered from had an “s” on the end of the business name and was a fraudulent company.

Mar. 6 (4:37 p.m.) A Friendswood man received notification from his bank regarding two suspicious transactions.  A transfer was made from his savings account to his checking account followed by a withdrawal from his checking account. A second withdrawal was made the next day. The victim verified that all the transactions were fraudulent, and the bank is investigating.

Mar. 7 (3:39 p.m.) A Friendswood woman received a letter in the mail about a past due debt to an apartment complex.  The victim did not know where the apartment complex was located and did not know anyone who lived in the apartment complex.

Mar. 8 (10:49 a.m.) A Friendswood woman, while on a cruise, had three fraudulent wire transfers made from her personal checking account.

Mar. 8 (5:59 p.m.) A Friendswood man’s identity was stolen and used to apply for a loan and purchase a vehicle at a Longview car dealership. The dealership became suspicious and was able to contact the victim whose identity was stolen. Soon after the dealership contacted the victim, the victim discovered that another car dealership checked on his credit for a loan application.

Mar. 9 (9:03 a.m.) A man attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill to the Friendswood Municipal Court to pay for a citation.  The clerk recognized the bill as being fake and told the man that she could not accept it.   He took the counterfeit bill back and paid for his citation using real currency.  The court administrator requested the counterfeit $100 and turned it over to police.  

Mar. 9 (10:41 a.m.) A Friendswood man’s identity was stolen, and it was used to attempt to purchase a vehicle from Yaklin Auto Group dealership in Seguin. The day prior, the suspect attempted to use the victim’s identity to purchase a vehicle from a Jaguar dealership in Grapevine and a Range Rover dealership in Grapevine.

Mar. 9 (10:50 a.m.) Friendswood residents received a Wal-Mart package on their front porch containing items they did not order. They later discovered that the items were charged to their credit card.  The transaction was fraudulent.

Mar. 10 (9:22 a.m.) A Friendswood man received correspondence regarding an outstanding debt.   The account was an alarm company account.  The account was opened using the victim’s personal identifying information with a La Porte address that the victim has not affiliation with and is a place he does not and has never resided.

Mar. 12 (10:20 a.m.) A Friendswood woman attempted to file her 2022 taxes with the IRS but her submission was denied due to her son’s social security number already filing a submission. The son affirmed that no other person should be using his social security number to file a tax return.

Assault

Mar. 6 (2:16 a.m.) Jason Kyle Doswell, 17, of Friendswood, was charged with Assault by Contact-Family Violence.  Doswell is accused of assaulting his mother at their home in the 3600 block of Queensburg Lane.

Narcotics

Mar. 12 (9:41 p.m.) Cayden Marcus Dalme, 18, of League City, was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Unlawfully Carry a Weapon. A caller reported that her ex-boyfriend was following her.  The suspicious vehicle was stopped in the 1700 block of S. Friendswood Drive. During the contact, the officer detected the smell of marijuana and observed a handgun resting on the floorboard along with another firearm. The officer searched the vehicle, found marijuana, and seized the two guns.

Driving While Intoxicated

Mar. 8 (12:55 a.m.) Ashley Nicole Smith, 49, of League City, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated in the 100 block of Clearview Avenue. Smith was driving with a flat rear driver’s side tire. During the contact, Smith exhibited signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test.

Mar. 9 (1:06 a.m.) Blake Garrett Davis, 31, of Pearland, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated-2nd offense in the 100 block of E. Parkwood Avenue. Davis was stopped for expired registration. During the contact, Davis exhibited signs of intoxication and failed a field sobriety test.

 

Mar. 11 (2:01 a.m.) Anita Irene Permenter, 29, of Webster, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated in the 800 block of S. Friendswood Drive. Permenter was stopped for driving with a defective brake light. She exhibited signs of intoxication and had an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. Permenter failed a field sobriety test. During a search of the vehicle, a bottle of Vodka and a THC vape were found.

Traffic

Mar. 7 (1:16 p.m.) Nahum Josue Sanchez, 25, of Houston, was charged with No Driver’s License, No Insurance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Unauthorized Use of a Temporary Tag. A traffic stop was conducted in the 600 block of S. Friendswood Drive when the officer was unable to confirm the validity of the temporary tag. During the contact, the officer detected the smell of marijuana. A search was conducted, and a baggie of marijuana was found shoved between the center console and the passenger seat.

Mar. 8 (4:48 p.m.) Raul Herrera, 35, of Houston, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Temporary Tag and No Insurance.  Herrera was stopped in the 5000 block of FM 2351.

Spring Break Road Trip Tips

    Always wear your seatbelt when driving.

    If possible don’t travel alone.

    Never pick up hitchhikers.

    Park in well-lit visible areas.

    If you’re feeling sleepy pull over at a public area to rest or rotate driving.

    Don’t drive under the influence of drugs that impair your ability to drive safely, designate.

    Always lock your car doors. Don’t leave valuables or perceived valuables within your vehicle.
