Captain Kenneth H. Dunlap, age 62, of Conroe passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Kenneth Howell Dunlap, or “Kenny” as he was known to all, was born in Trinity, Texas but moved to Conroe as a young child and grew up in Montgomery County.

A Conroe High School graduate, he attended Sam Houston State University and later found his life’s calling in law enforcement. After attending the Harris County Basic Peace Officer’s Course, he found his first and only public safety job as a Deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Forty years later, now as a Captain, he diligently and faithfully served Montgomery County's citizens and his brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Kenny truly was a “cop’s Cop,” holding every rank and serving in multiple positions in Patrol, CID, Internal Affairs, and ultimately as Captain of the West Precinct of the Sheriff’s Office. More than just a leader, he was best known as a mentor, teacher, and protector of those under his command. Kenny’s investment in their lives has directly shaped the careers of countless law enforcement professionals.

While his career has been outstanding, Kenny was better known for his deep and expressive love for his wife, Beth, and his kids, Matt, Sarah, and Cameron, now all adults and enjoying successful lives. Beth and Kenny met while Deputy Dunlap was young in career, and so remarkable was their love that they were married one week after he proposed to her!

For over thirty years, Beth and Kenny completed each other’s and their kids' lives. It should be noted on the day before his death, while in a senior leadership class, when the attendees were asked where they found their strength, Kenny was the first to respond with “My wife and my family.”

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and partner agencies are deeply mourning the loss of Captain Kenny Dunlap. Even deeper is the loss for Beth, Matt, Sarah, and Cameron as this storied husband and father moved to his heavenly reward.

“Rest well, faithful servant. We’ve got it from here.”

Captain Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Beth Dunlap; his son Mathew Dunlap and wife Krystal; his daughter Sarah McGinn and wife Brittany; and his son Cameron Dunlap and fiancé Abbie; his mother Martha Miller; his sister Beth Vickery and his brother James Miller and wife Jennifer. Captain Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Hamer Dunlap and step-mother Melba Dunlap. Other family members and a host of friends and his brothers and sisters of law enforcement are also left to treasure his memory.

A visitation for Captain Kenneth were held Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Mims Baptist Church, 1609 Porter Rd, Conroe, TX 77301. The funeral service was at Mims Baptist Church with burial following at Garden Park Cemetery, 801 Teas Rd, Conroe, TX 77303.
