A San Antonio police officer tending the scene of a wreck was rushed
to an area hospital in critical condition after being struck by a
vehicle early Sunday, police at the scene said.
Officers responded about 1:15 a.m. to the
8600 block of South Flores Street where the unidentified officer was
working a traffic crash when a red vehicle traveling south struck him as
he stood in the number two lane directing traffic, according to Sgt.
Michelle Ramos, San Antonio Police Department spokesman.

He suffered massive head injuries and was
taken to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition, according to
officers at the scene. An SAPD news release sent at 10 a.m. reported the
officer as being "stable."
The woman driving the vehicle told police she did not see the officer and stopped to render aid, according to police.
The driver was evaluated and did not show any signs of intoxication, according to Ramos. She was released at the scene.
