FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:      May 23, 2019

Early this morning, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office was made aware that employees and residents of Travis County were receiving email messages from usernotice@google.com stating that the company had received  “…legal process issued by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office compelling the release of information” related to their Google account.

The emails were initially believed to be phishing scam, but after communicating with Google, it has been determined  the messages are the result of a broad reaching subpoena TCSO issued in association with a criminal investigation and are legitimate.

Anyone who receives a message from Google indicating that TCSO is compelling the release of information, and believes it to be in error, is encouraged to follow the instructions given in the message.
