A 57-year-old Kingwood man died Thursday at the San Luis Pass, probably of drowning, the Galveston Island Beach Patrol said.

It would be the second drowning this year at one of the most perilous spots on Galveston Island.

Emergency responders were called just before 2?p.m. to the west end of Galveston Island on a report of a body floating in the water about 10 feet from the shore, officials said.

The man was found unresponsive in knee-deep water south of the San Luis Pass, officials said. Rescuers found fishing gear in the water and on the shore near the man’s body, the beach patrol said.
