The Jones County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of former Sheriff Larry Moore.

Moore suffered a massive heart attack Wednesday morning, according to family.

According to the sheriff's office, Moore worked in law enforcement for 28 years, including a record 16-years as Jones County Sheriff.

"Sheriff Moore was not only an exceptional Deputy, but a loving friend, father, husband, and grandfather," the sheriff's office said. "Sheriff Moore was the true definition of strength, perseverance, and compassion."

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Moore was 64-years-old.
