If you are interested in issues related to the development, implementation, expansion and delivery of services through Consumer Directed Services, you may want to apply to be a member of the Texas Council on Consumer Direction. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission executive commissioner will appoint members to the council to serve the remainder of terms expiring Dec. 31, 2021, Dec. 31, 2022 and Dec. 31, 2023. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., July 15.

HHSC will consider the applicants' qualifications, background and interest in serving on the council and will try to choose council members who represent the diversity of all Texans. For this reason, HHSC considers applicants' ethnicity, gender and geographic location.

A Texas Council on Consumer Direction member must regularly participate in council meetings and in other meetings as needed. Council meetings are held about once every three months in Austin or at the call of the presiding officer. To the extent permitted by the current state budget, a member of the Texas Council on Consumer Direction who is a client or family member of a client may be reimbursed for their travel to and from meetings if funds are available and in accordance with the HHSC Travel Policy.
