Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 6100 West Little York Road about 4:35 a.m. today (Aug. 19).

The identity of the male victim, 39, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer E. Rubio reported:

The victim was driving a silver Nissan Versa westbound at the above address when he failed to drive in a single lane and left the roadway.  The Nissan struck a tree in the center esplanade and then spun back onto the street.  The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the vehicle, who was not injured, told investigators he and the driver had been drinking throughout the night.

The investigation is continuing.
