Galveston Police Press Release

On Wednesday, September 4th, at approximately 11:03 pm, Officers stopped at the intersection of 27th and Ave J observed a white and green Kawasaki motorcycle run the red light while traveling westbound on Ave J at over 100mph.  Those officers almost immediately lost sight of the motorcycle due to its speed, but radioed the vehicle’s description ahead and proceeded in the same direction.  Seconds later, officers discovered that the driver of the motorcycle had crashed into an 18 wheeler at the intersection of 36th St and Ave J and immediately summoned rescue units to the scene.  The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 39-year-old Daniel Hood of Texas City, was not wearing a helmet and sustained head trauma as well as several other injuries and, as such, was pronounced deceased shortly after the arrival of Galveston EMS.

Investigators with Galveston Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team were dispatched to the scene and discovered that the 18 wheeler was turning northbound onto 36th St from Ave J when the motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed struck the right rear corner of the truck's trailer.  No charges have been filed or are expected at this time.
