The Travis County Sheriff’s Office Underwater Recovery Team recovered the body of AKEEM ALBERT CAMERON, 22, of Fort Bragg, NC, on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Around 1:15 p.m. on that same day, a 911 caller reported Cameron was having trouble staying above the water in the Thurman Cove area of Lake Travis before he disappeared.

Deputies, along with Travis County Parks Police officers, Pedernales Fire Dept., Lake Travis Fire & Rescue, ATCEMS and STAR Flight immediately responded to the scene. TCSO Lake Patrol units searched the water before the Underwater Recovery Team arrived to take over the search.

Detectives are investigating the incident and an investigation into the cause and manner of death is being conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cameron is the third person to die in Lake Travis this year. John Petrone died on June 17, after vanishing in the Rough Hollow area of the lake. Sebastian Medina-Page died on February 21 in the Hurst Creek Arm area while trying to repair a broken pump at a private residence.
