Sources confirmed to ABC13 that this stems from a post written by a veteran officer who has been with the department for almost 25 years.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department says one of its employees retired hours before a hearing after he was relieved of duty for posting what was described as a "social media post with racial overtones."

According to a statement released by the department via Twitter, a notice of disciplinary review hearing was set for Monday for Sgt. Robert Clasen featuring Chief Art Acevedo.

However, Clasen submitted a letter of retirement hours before the scheduled meeting.

On Friday, HPD confirmed that an internal affairs investigation is also underway.

"The department will report our findings and corrective action upon completion of the investigation," read the tweet.

Sources confirmed to ABC13 that this stems from a post written by Clasen, who has been with the department for almost 25 years.

The post reads in part, "The black community doesn't need police reform, social programs, or more money. The black community needs a big giant mirror and it needs to stand in front of that mirror and say individually, I am the problem. Not the cops, not the system, not racism, not white people, not Donald trump, I am the problem and I am the solution."

The social media post has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, the president of the Houston Police Officers' Union addressed the social media post last week saying, "I am aware of a post circulating that is reported to come from one of our officers. It is vile, it is disgusting, I know it is under investigation but I am confident the [Houston police] department will act swiftly."

Comments:
It's a sad day when in this supposed free country one has to face these sorts of consequences for speaking their mind, especially when what he wrote IS the absolute truth.

And, I blame the news outlets for perpetuating a lot of this bad behavior from certain people or groups.

They should report the news, and let it alone, instead of beating a dead horse, over, and over, and over, again.

I'm with Officer Clasen 100% in what he said, and I'd like to know what does Freedom of Speech really means if we can't exercise that right without fear of unwarranted consequences?

How many times has the news bashed President Trump and lied about him, but they are still here. Sheshhhh!

Freedom of Speech...
When you are hired to do a job and you use your job as an identifier then you have sold your freedom of speech to your employer.
Practice your freedom of speech is on your own time and in your own name not on the City's name or paid time.
You signed a morals contract promising not to do something stupid in the name of the Dept.
Fired for violating a contract...really simple

So I guess you cannot have an opinion in these radical times. The media and Democrats are creating a monster full of hate by inciting all this violence and getting behind the rioting, arson, police shootings and blaming the team that tries to keep law and order. Yeah, there are some things that shouldn't happen sometimes. This young generation already does not respect authority and wants everything handed to them... Look at those CHAZ idiots, now asking for supplies.... Well thought out plan there dummies. Fear the future, it looks like it will be getting rough REAL SOON....Good Luck America

And not to be racist, But maybe Sgt Clasen has a bit of truth in this statement.

I feel for all you Police Officers; having to make quick decisions not knowing if you will loose your life, pay with your life, or get to go home for the evening. You deserve more appreciation than you get.

God Bless Guys & Gals,
LMC
