A tribute to
Nicolas Chavez, 27, who was shot and killed April 21 by several police

Houston police released bodycam footage Thursday showing several officers who shot and killed 27-year-old Nicolas Chavez and drew ire from the Houston cop union.
Chavez was killed in early May when several officers
opened fire as he grabbed an empty Taser outside a northeast Houston
restaurant. He was apparently going through some kind of crisis, police
Hours before releasing the video, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo fired four of the officers involved.
The move was quickly admonished by Joe Gamaldi, president
of the Houston Police Officers’ Union, who called Acevedo’s decision
“unjust and deplorable.”
“Even if you deescalate, retreat, follow policy, training
and the law...you will still lose your job as a Houston Police
Officer,” Gamaldi tweeted.
At a press conference, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner stood beside Acevedo on the firings.
“This is not an indictment on 5,300 police officers,” Turner said. “But it does say for our city that we are all accountable.”
The criminal investigation still continues.
