Although there has still been no official announcement by authorities or no press release issued it was learned Monday evening that police in Galveston County are looking for an escaped inmate.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office did confirm, when asked, that Dominic Talies Potter escaped from the county jail around 7:15pm while taking out the garbage.

Potter is a white male with brown hair. He stands 5 feet, 11 inches tall and he is 38 years old.

According to court records, he is awaiting trial for forgery.  There has also been a warrant issued for him for parole board violations and he is wanted on a warrant issued in Tarrant County, Fort Worth, his hometown.

It is reported that Potter was given duty in the county jail working in the kitchen.  Part of his duties was to take the garbage outside to the dumpster.  It was on one of those trips outside that he did not return.

He was last seen running across the field in the 5800 block of Broadway wearing a blue jail jumpsuit.

Oh shame, shame on the County Jail. You should know better than that.

Supposedly he has been spotted at the Buc-ees in Madisonville. A search of the area is underway.

inmates can just walk out of a jail??

Well, he must really like it there. I mean, playing hide and seek and all that. If you loose the game of hide and seek, you will get to stay there much longer.

Another learning experience for the sheriff's office. Indigent people awaiting trial for a felony can't be trusted.

Evidently he was a Trustee. Guess he won't be again!

Seems like their is a LACK of SUPERVISION at our Cnty Jail. Some heads ought to roll bc of this, from the TOP down. Just turn in your ID Card at the Front Gate when you leave Boss.

Looks like he may be trying to head back home to Fort Worth! Guess he thinks LE Officers are blind to this fact. Possibly headed toward being one of "America's Dumbest Criminals"!

Now y'all leave good ole Henry alone, at least he and Ron Hill didn't give them a destroyed gun when he ran away from jail.

Henry is doing such a great job you would think all those he promoted would be on hand to supervise.

I have said many times that the County Jail inmates that have work details should be called "PW's" (Prisoner-Workers) and NOT Trustees which IMPLIES trustworthiness. Running the County Jail without the Free help of 50 or so Prisoner Workers would require a HUGE increase in budget. Do NOT judge the Deputy in charge of the garbage detail too harshly-He had 3 other PW"s to watch while the 1 "escapee"ran off.

Exactly.Blame the good guys for this crumbs illegal actions. Typical. I have heard this from a crumb relative. Everything they do is somebody's fault. Never there for me, shouldn't have let me have it do XYZ, etc. Own up.

I asked the media relations person for the GCSO on Facebook why there was no press release. Whoever it was stated they notified the local news stations. I told them that isn't good enough. There should've been a public press release right after it happened.

I asked them why there hasn't been any social media updates. They didn't have an answer to that. I guess it's no big deal to them. ???

He just messed it up for the other trustees!! When they catch him and bring him back I would bet a couple of folks will have a talk with him!!

Galveston PD & SO both fail to communicate to their public. They always think they are going to catch these crooks and escapees with their own personnel without anyone knowing about the incident. These agencies do more 'coverup' than any I have even ever seen. The PD covers up crime to protect the tourist trade. The Sheriff in this case so the state don't come down on him for the weakness in his jail. Even Crime Stoppers in Galveston is a coverup, 'do nothing' organization.
