Police officers shot a person who fired a gun at them Sunday evening in South Dallas, police said.

Around 6:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Metropolitan Avenue in response to a call related to a person with a gun, police said.

Officers found a suspect, whose identity has not been shared by police, at the location, according to police. When officers approached, the gunman “charged” at the police officers and shot at them, police said.

Officers returned fire and struck the suspect, who is in critical condition, according to police.

One other person was injured during the incident and is believed to be in stable condition at a medical facility, police said.

Investigators believe the incident started as an argument, according to the department.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting, police said. The Office of Community Police Oversight was also notified of the officer-involved shooting.
