On Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at approximately 1:15 am 48-year-old Christopher Steven McHenry walked into to the front office of the Texas City Police Department to report that someone had been following him. During the course of the interview the officer discovered that Mr. McHenry had an outstanding warrant for Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mr. McHenry was placed under arrest without incident and escorted to the Texas City Police Department Holding Facility. Mr. McHenry was placed in a cell prior to booking. During a welfare check conducted by a Texas City Detention Officer, Mr. McHenry was found to be unresponsive and in medical distress.

Emergency Medical Personnel were immediately called. Texas City Fire Department Paramedics responded and were unable to revive Mr. McHenry, he was pronounced deceased. 

Per Texas City Police Department procedures, The Texas Rangers were called and a Ranger responded to investigate the in-custody death. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office was contacted by the Texas City Police Department and notified of the in-custody death. 

Mr. McHenry was transported to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office where an independent investigation to determine Mr. McHenry’s cause of death will be conducted. 

No further details are available. Additional information will be made available pending the results of the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office and Texas Rangers investigations.
