The Friendswood Police Department has released the 2022 Friendswood Police Department Annual Crime Report. The 12-page document provides comparative statistics for crimes, traffic incidents, call volume and response times.  The report is available on the City’s website.

The crime rate remains low – 6.27 crimes per 1,000 residents in 2022 as compared to 6.51 crimes per 1,000 residents in 2021, based on the City’s current population of 42,268.

The Friendswood Police Department participates in the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS). Submissions of crime statistics began with the NIBRS format in October 2019. At the conclusion of 2022, the Department has submitted three full years of crime statistics using the NIBRS system.

Friendswood experienced one Homicide in 2022 and saw an increase in rapes – 11 in 2022, compared to 7 in 2021. Shoplifting reports saw an increase, as did the theft of motor vehicle parts. Overall, property crimes decreased.

The number of crashes decreased – 496 in 2022 compared to 542 in 2021. Despite the decline in the overall numbers, 2022 was one of the deadliest years on record with four fatal crashes. The most frequent crash locations were the three farm-to-market roadways, accounting for 70% of the reported crashes.

The report also highlights facilities updates and technology updates seen in 2022.
