ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced two former Minneapolis police officers who were convicted of violating George Floyd’s civil rights to lighter terms than recommended in sentencing guidelines, calling one “truly a rookie officer” and describing the other as “a good police officer, father and husband.”

These officers clearly murdered George Floyd...There is no justification for what they did. The jury has the final say and complaining about his past is simply deflection...The crime that he committed (none) the day he died at the knee of these officers is all that really matters. Police officers are not judges and have no authority to pass the death sentence...Police in America have lost the confidence of the public by covering up for bad officers...The thin blue line protects criminals in uniform...
