- Today, Fort Bend County Judge KP George authorized the closure of
all County facilities and buildings as the heat wave continues to put a
strain on Texas’ power grid. Judge George cited a need to adhere to the
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)
conservation appeal for Wednesday, July 13 between 2-8 p.m.
“We
have a major heat emergency in our state right now and the main concern
I have is for the safety and well-being
of our Fort Bend County residents,” said County Judge KP George. “I
don’t want any of our residents to be without power while we are
experiencing these extreme temperatures. ERCOT has issued an appeal for
residents and businesses to conserve energy, so we
must all do our part to reduce the electrical demand.”
To
limit the strain on the energy grid, Judge George advised County
government department heads to limit their
energy consumption by asking all applicatory employees to end their
work day an hour before the official close of business. Additionally, he
encouraged all County employees to limit their energy usage at their
homes until 8:00 p.m., during this critical time.
