I teen was charged Saturday in connection to string of fires
around a Jack Brooks Park, police said.
Jace Fairley, 17, of Santa Fe, was being held at the
Galveston County Jail on $50,000 in bonds, police said.
The Hitchcock Fire Department responded to a call about 9
a.m. Saturday to Jack Brooks Park, in the 5700 block of FM 2004 near Highway 6
in Hitchcock, after reports of a fire in the pavilion, police said.
“The fire was started in the trash cans and paper towel
dispensers in the bathrooms near the pavilion,” Hitchcock police chief Wilmon
Smith said.
Minutes later, the fire department received reports of a
fire in the bathrooms at the tennis court, police said. The trash can and paper
towel dispensers were again ignited, police said.
About 1 p.m., the fire department was called back after
fires were found in the bathrooms near the park’s baseball field, where trash
cans and paper towel dispensers were again ignited, police said.
“The police department and Sheriff’s Office were able to
detain four suspects who we thought were involved,” Smith said. “Three were
released and one was arrested following our investigation.”
