MARLIN, Texas (KWTX) Bond was set at $250,000 Wednesday for a Central Texas man suspected of robbing the BBVA Compass Bank in Marlin armed with what turned out to be a realistic toy pistol or air gun.

Ronald James Bryant, 60, was arrested Tuesday evening at a home in Lott after investigators traced a vehicle caught on surveillance video to a home in Lott.

Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman had said earlier he was determined to find the man.

“You know when you put a gun in the face of a young lady at a bank we take that really seriously,” Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman said.

The gun used in the robbery, Scaman said, was actually either a realistic toy or an air gun that resembled a .9 mm pistol.

Scaman said Wednesday his office will continue to provide courtesy patrols at all local banks in the aftermath of the robbery, which was reported at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the BBVA Compass Bank at 504 Live Oak St. in Marlin.

The robber, who was wearing sunglasses, dark pants and a baseball cap covered by a bright orange hooded sweatshirt and carrying a maroon or purple bag, fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, the FBI said.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators scoured the area of the bank for security cameras that may have captured video of the robber’s escape and found video that showed that the suspect parked a Mercedes Benz behind the Sonic restaurant at 428 Live Oak St.

They traced the vehicle to a residence in Lott where Bryant was arrested without incident.

Waco police and a K9 team, the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, the Falls County Sheriff Office, The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Game Wardens and a helicopter were involved in the search.
