HOUSTON —The Coast Guard medevaced a 57-year-old man approximately 66 miles offshore of Galveston, Texas, Monday night.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the cruise ship Carnival Dream stating a passenger aboard the vessel was in need of medical assistance. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.

An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to the scene.

The Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted and transferred the patient along with a physician from the Carnival Dream to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Scholes International Airport.

Weather on scene was reported as 3-foot seas with 12 mph winds.
