Fort Worth’s Fire Station Community Center has been in service to the city for a century. A big centennial celebration is 5-8 p.m., Friday, March 10, at the center, 1601 Lipscomb St.

The public is invited to join staff and other partygoers for music, concessions, free hot dogs and chips, food trucks, bounce houses, a firetruck from the new Station 8 and more.

From historic firehall to community hub

  • In 1975, a square block area containing Fire Station No. 8, originally designed by architect Charles F. Allen and constructed by B.B. Adams in 1923, was turned over to the City’s Park Department.
  • In 1978, work began on converting the one-and-one-half-story fire station into a community center to serve Fairmount and surrounding neighborhoods.
  • In 1994, Community Development Block Grant funds were used to construct a gymnasium addition.
  • The addition was designed by Terry M. Harden and Associates and built by E. Horn Construction.
