Fatality Crash at W. Ben White Boulevard and Menchaca Road

Case:           21-0381093

Date:           February 7, 2021

Time:           6:34 p.m.

Location:      W. Ben White Boulevard WB and Menchaca Road

Deceased:     Steven James Ingram, White male, 2/2/1956

The preliminary investigation shows that Steven James Ingram was crossing from the northwest corner to the southwest corner of the intersection. A witness reported that northbound/southbound traffic on Menchanca Road had a green light at the time of the crash meaning that Mr. Ingram likely crossed against the street light when he was struck by a southbound black, 2008 Lexus ES 250.

Steven Ingram was attended to on scene by Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department personnel, but was ultimately pronounced deceased at 7:09 p.m.

The Lexus driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. There are no charges anticipated.

Mr. Ingram appears to have been an individual experiencing homelessness who resided under the overpass located at W. Ben White Boulevard and Menchaca Road.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case should call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-6935. You can also submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
