FIRE CHIEF PROMOTES TWO CHIEF OFFICERS TO COMMAND STAFF POSITIONS
What: Fire Chief Terry Garrison promotes two chief officers to command level positions among the Houston Fire Department Command Staff along with 14 others members to the positions of Engineer Operator, Captain and Chief Communication Officer.

Additional Information: Assistant Chief Cynthia Vargas is being appointed to Executive Fire Chief while Chief Inspector Jerry Ford is assuming the Office of City of Houston Fire Marshal.
Cynthia Vargas is being promoted from Assistant Chief to Executive Fire Chief and will assume leadership over Prevention and Homeland Security Divisions. Chief Vargas is a Graduate of Notre Dame University. She entered the department in 1994 and rose to the rank of Chief Officer in 2011. Her appointment makes her the first female Executive Fire Chief in the history of the Houston Fire Department.
Chief Jerry Ford is being promoted from Chief Inspector to the Office of Fire Marshal for the City of Houston with an Assistant Chief Appointment. Chief Jerry Ford entered the Fire Department in 1982 and promoted to Chief Inspector in 2010. Chief Ford has a degree in Emergency Management Administration from West Texas A & M University. He holds a Master Level Certification in two disciplines, Structural Firefighting and Inspection. His appointment places him in charge of Houston Life Safety Bureau and Public Education.
“We’re examining the organizational chart of the department in ways to improve the level customer service we provide our citizens,” says Fire Chief Garrison.
