GALVESTON, TX – Sept. 13, 2018 – On Monday Sept. 10, 2018, Galveston police officers arrested Mario Eduardo Salinas, 27, and charged him with Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animal, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Terroristic Threats to a Family Member. The location of the incident and arrest was in the 5700 block of Avenue Q in Galveston and his bond was set at $47,500.

 

Officers received a report from a resident about her boyfriend, Mario Salinas, who was threatening to kill her and her pets, and take her kids. Shortly after, officers were dispatched to Salinas’ residence in reference to gunshots being fired. Salinas was not on location when officers arrived but arrived shortly after. Officers observed Salinas to have blood on his boots and clothing. Investigators arrived on the scene and a search warrant was executed on the residence. The investigation determined Salinas had made threats to his girlfriend.

 

Witnesses stated that Salinas stabbed the family cat, “Snowflake,” to death with a kitchen knife. While he was attacking the family pet, Salinas’s 4- year-old child found an AK-47 rifle and fired it.

 

The investigation determined that Salinas left the location with the children and disposed of the family cat, then returned to the residence to find police already there. Salinas was detained by police upon his arrival back to the residence. The children were found unharmed.

Animal control officers later located the family’s cat in an alley several blocks away. The cat was taken to a veterinarian for a necropsy, where the veterinarian determined the cat had 12 stab wounds to its body.

 

Mario Eduardo Salinas was formally charged with the three stated offenses: Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animal, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Terroristic Threats to a Family Member. Salinas is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail.

 

The Galveston Police Department would like to commend these Officers and Investigators for their swift action in this case and diligence to keeping the citizens of Galveston safe.
