On June 5, 2019, Sr. Deputy Rick Millers and other deputies were serving a warrant on Preston Marcel Molina at the Travis County Adult Probation Office at 10409 Burnet Road. Realizing he would be arrested and attempting to avoid apprehension, Molina ran to his car and sped out of the parking lot, striking Deputy Millers and throwing him in the air. Deputy Millers sustained significant injuries to his shoulder, torso, leg and knee.

On December 19, 2019, Molina pleaded guilty to Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.

“Deputy Millers is a true example of the mission and values of the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, both in his heart and his commitment. He has worked so hard to get back to work for the sake of his team. He still faces several surgeries and deals with pain on a daily basis. The men and women of TCSO put their lives on the line every day and this is a glimpse into what’s at stake in any given moment.”

–Sheriff Sally Hernandez
