HAMILTON COUNTY, Texas (KWTX)
Deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office infiltrated a
criminal organization that trafficked methamphetamine between Hico and
Stephenville, leading to the arrest of four alleged drug traffickers.
Those charged in what authorities are calling
the "first wave of arrests" are Jessie Lee Kemp, 40; James Edwin Smith
Jr., 42; Michael Anthony Wilson, 37; and Michael Brandon Downey, 35.
Investigators with the Hamilton County
Sheriff's Office became aware of the group of individuals trafficking
methamphetamine in October 2019.
Undercover deputies were able to
infiltrate the criminal network and "began making undercover purchases
of methamphetamine," Hamilton County Sheriff Justin Caraway said.
Downey, Smith and Kemp all face a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance over 4 grams.
Wilson faces a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance over 1 gram.
Caraway said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are coming.
