Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6100 Griggs Road

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6100 Griggs Road about 5 p.m. last Friday (March 6).

The male victim, 53, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer J. Leon reported:

The victim was driving a gray Nissan Versa northbound at the above address and making a left turn onto Brock Street when his vehicle was struck by a green Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Griggs.  The Nissan then struck a white Toyota Tundra parked on private property.  Two children, an 8-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, were standing nearby and were injured.  They were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.  Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital.

The male driver, 19, of the Chevrolet was not injured and showed no signs of intoxication.

At this time, there are no charges in this incident as the investigation is continuing.

Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 1000 Greens Road

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male found at 1000 Greens Road about 6 a.m. on Saturday (March 7).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:

HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to a person down call at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found the victim unresponsive in the driver's side seat of a vehicle.  The vehicle was running and its four doors were locked.  Paramedics gained entry and pronounced the victim deceased, possibly from multiple gunshots originating from somewhere outside the vehicle.  

At this time, there is no known suspect(s) or motive in the incident.

Investigation into Shooting Incident at 9585 Main Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man that occurred at 12015 Segrest Drive about 7:45 p.m. last Friday (March 6).

The suspect, Lonell Junior Martel (b/m, 66), is charged with felon in possession of a weapon and tampering/fabricating evidence in the 209th State District Court.  

The victim, Lionel Stanley, 36, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives Z. Brumley and M. Althaus reported:

Martel was a parking attendant for a bar at the above address.  Mr. Stanley became upset when Martel gave a parking space to another patron.  Stanley got out of his vehicle and began to argue with and, according to witnesses, threaten Martel.  At that time, Martel shot Stanley one time in the abdomen before fleeing in a vehicle.

While fleeing, Martel threw the weapon to an unknown location along the 610 Loop (Interstate Highway 610).  He eventually returned to the shooting scene to surrender to officers.
