FORT WORTH, Texas- OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

On June 5, 2019, at 8:53 p.m., South division officers were dispatched to 4949 Rickee Dr in reference to a Burglary in Progress call.  While officers were enroute the complainant advised the call takers that the suspect was threatening the complainant with a gun.

An officer arrived on scene and confronted the suspect outside in the front yard. Someone from the residence was telling the officer that the suspect had a knife on his person. The officer then attempted to conduct a ‘pat down’ (for officer safety) of the suspect to check for the weapons which had been reported to him. The suspect told the officer that he was not going back to prison and lunged towards the officer. The officer pulled out his Taser and attempted to neutralize the suspect, but the suspect removed the wires and the Taser was ineffective. The suspect then lunged towards the officer a second time and the officer fearing for his life retrieved his duty weapon and fired at the suspect, striking him in the upper torso.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Officers recovered multiple knives from the scene.

Fort Worth Police Major Case detectives are leading the investigation and will be analyzing all available evidence. Concurrently, Fort Worth Police Internal Affairs Unit will investigate for any administrative violations. Upon conclusion of the criminal investigation, the case will be submitted to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for review.  No officers were injured during this incident.

The officer has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for 2 years and was placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure on every Critical Police Incident.
